Report: Amazon Faces Japanese Tax6 Jul, 2009 By: Erik Gruenwedel
While Amazon is fighting Internet taxes here in the States, Japan is reportedly asking the retailer for $119 million in back taxes.
Market Watch reported July 6 that Japanese tax authorities are claiming two Japanese subsidiaries of Amazon have been acting as branch offices of Amazon.com International Sales since 2005.
Amazon has acknowledged the taxation order, Market Watch reported.
In June Amazon cut ties with its affiliates programs in Hawaii, Rhode Island and North Carolina over those states’ online sales tax legislation.
