LoveFilm Streaming ‘Vikings’ Day After U.S. Broadcast

13 Jan, 2014 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Amazon-owned LoveFilm Instant said it will stream new episodes of History’s “Vikings” the day after their U.S. broadcast. Created by MGM Television, the critically-acclaimed Norse epic features 10 episodes and premieres Feb. 28.

LoveFilm Instant is a subscription streaming service in the United Kingdom aimed at competing against Netflix with both exclusive content and license agreements.

Starring Travis Fimmel (Warcraft), Katheryn Winnick (“Love and Other Drugs,” “Bones”) and Clive Standen (“Hammer of the Gods,” “Camelot”), the second season of “Vikings” sees the notorious Norse warrior Ragnar Lothbrok (Fimmel) use his new position as Earl to continue to plunder, pillage and explore new kingdoms with his band of fearless warriors.

Now allied with Donal Logue’s (“Sons of Anarchy”, “Grounded for Life”) King Horrik, Ragnar is more powerful than ever. However, this newfound power comes at great cost — the betrayal of his vicious brother Rollo (Standen), the deterioration of his marriage to the fearless shield–maiden Lagertha (Winnick), and the scorn of his warrior son, Bjorn, played by newcomer Alexander Ludwig (The Hunger Games).

“’Vikings’ has been a huge hit with our members and received incredible feedback,” Chris Bird, director of film strategy at LoveFilm, said in a statement. “With Michael Hirst at the helm the ‘Vikings’ storyline contains something for everyone – love, conflict, revenge, adventure and of course epic battle scenes worthy of Viking folklore.”
