SVOD services up content offerings to lure kids and their parents

LoveFilm Instant Aug. 5 said it has inked a deal with NBC Universal that enables its subscribers in the United Kingdom to stream the network’s children’s programming.

Programs include Emmy award-winning “Curious George” and “Barbie: Princess Charm School”; “The Land Before Time”; “Maisy,” the animated series based on the picture books created by British illustrator Lucy Cousins; and “Rastamouse,” the animated stop-motion series about a crime-busting mouse.

“From nostalgic classics to modern favorites, there is a wealth of child-friendly series available on LoveFilm Instant, and these latest additions allow us to offer our ever-growing audience more choice than ever before,” chief marketing officer Simon Morris said in a statement.

Since Netflix’s launch of its “Just for Kinds” platform (and resulting impact on Nickelodeon TV ratings), there has been a push within the subscription video-on-demand market to offer children’s programming without commercials.
