Amazon Re-Ups ‘Under the Dome’ Agreement16 Sep, 2013 By: Erik Gruenwedel
New deal gives Amazon Prime Instant Video exclusive access to the second season of CBS’ ‘Under the Dome’ mid-summer series
Amazon reportedly has renewed a content licensing deal with CBS Corp. for the latter’s popular mid-summer replacement serial “Under the Dome,” along with catalog of TV shows and movies to stream on the Amazon Prime Instant Video subscription video-on-demand service.
The extended agreement — first disclosed by Zacks Equity Research — makes Prime Instant Video the exclusive SVOD service to stream the second season of “Dome,” which is based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name. Similar to the previous agreement, new episodes will be available on Prime Instant Video four days after their broadcast in summer 2014.
During the past 12 months, Amazon has entered into numerous streaming deals with studios, in addition to cable networks. Amazon signed a deal with PBS Distribution for the exclusive streaming rights to the third season of “Downton Abbey,” bringing to 41,000 the number of videos available for free to members of Amazon's shipping program.
“We believe that expanding the video archive is one of the key strategies of Prime Instant Video. The deal is the latest effort by Amazon to strengthen its position versus Netflix,” Zacks said in a note.
