Wrangling Up ‘Rango’ Deals12 Jul, 2011 By: John Latchem
The July 12 new-release week happens to feature not one, but two titles streeting on a Friday, with Paramount’s Rango and Warner’s Arthur hitting disc July 15.
Target’s promotional ad touted a $17 price for the Rango DVD and $22.99 for the Blu-ray, as well as a $5 coupon from Target.com/movies. Target also offered an instant $8 savings with purchase of The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie Blu-ray/DVD combo pack ($15.99) and any Rango disc.
Best Buy also offered a Rango $5 coupon, at Rangocoupon.com/BestBuy, which would have brought its price down to $12.99 for the DVD and $14.99 for the Blu-ray. But the chain made a bigger deal out of the seventh season of HBO’s “Entourage,” offering it for $22.96 on DVD and $26.99 on Blu-ray, as well as previous seasons at $14.99 each.
Best Buy also offered recently released titles on DVD for as low as $9.99 each and on Blu-ray for as low as $14.99 each.
Stores didn’t offer any similar promotion deals for Arthur, though Best Buy was the only chain touting availability of a single-disc Blu-ray version of the film.
