Some Good Deals for ‘Sex’26 Oct, 2010 By: John Latchem
The big new release Oct. 26 was Warner Home Video’s Sex and the City 2. While retailers were interested in setting up big displays for the title, most didn’t bother to push it through with any exclusive goodies.
Among the major chains, only Target stepped up with an exclusive for the title, offering a two-DVD deluxe edition that included an additional 50 minutes of bonus content, including an exclusive featurette.
The week was otherwise light on new titles, with the only other theatrical release being The Girl Who Played With Fire, which wasn’t offered at some Walmart stores in Southern California.
Another release drawing interest was Star Wars: The Clone Wars — Season Two on DVD and Blu-ray, available at all the major retailers.
Among the higher-profile new releases were two catalog boxed sets. Fox’s Alien Anthology Blu-ray set couldn’t be found at Walmart, but Universal’s new Back to the Future: 25th Anniversary Trilogy sets were flying off shelves at all the retail chains (though Target stocked only the Blu-ray version).
Meanwhile, Disney's Beauty and the Beast Blu-ray/DVD combo pack continues to stir some unrest among the natives. At one Target in Santa Ana, a woman frantically looking for a copy was disappointing to see it priced at $29.99. When told it was because of the Blu-ray, and that a DVD-only edition would be along in a month, she said she would wait.
