Retailers Preparing for Sales23 Nov, 2010 By: John Latchem
Not much exciting happened at retail Nov. 23, with stores offering a few good deals in preparation for the Black Friday blitz. Most new releases hit with little fanfare, though Target made a bit of a show with its $13 price for the DVD of The Expendables.
As far as exclusives go, retail interest focused on the latest Julia Roberts vehicle, Eat Pray Love. Target offered an exclusive deluxe-edition of the DVD that included a CD soundtrack, while Walmart packaged the film with a copy of another Roberts film, My Best Friend’s Wedding.
It’s interesting to note that for three of the new releases — The Expendables, Eat Pray Love and The Search for Santa Paws — Walmart offered the DVD and Blu-ray at the same $19.96 price.
Speaking of The Search for Santa Paws, Disney’s latest entry in its “Air Bud” franchise, Best Buy offered a free puppy plush (regularly a $6.99 value) with purchase of the movie on DVD or Blu-ray. Also, anyone who bought the movie in conjunction with Beauty and the Beast: Diamond Edition, rereleased Nov. 23 in its DVD-only version (offered by Best Buy at $17.99), received an $8 discount off the total purchase.
