Post-Holiday Sales Linger30 Nov, 2010 By: John Latchem
The week after Thanksgiving, some stores still showed signs of their Black Friday sales. Walmart, for example, had a whole shelf of discounted catalog DVDs, with sections at $5, $8 and $13.
Best Buy has catalog DVD titles as low as $3.49 each, while Target had Blu-ray Discs for $10 and $13.
The most notable discount for a new release came with Blu-ray/DVD combos for Disney’s Fantasia/Fantasia 2000 and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. Target and Best Buy both offered an instant $10 saving with purchase of both film combo packs (though Best Buy’s deal applied to the 3D combo pack of Sorcerer’s Apprentice that also included a digital copy).
Best Buy also offered a $5 CinemaNow gift card with the purchase of the Knight and Day Blu-ray/DVD gift set.
Otherwise, most of the weekly advertising was geared toward the Dec. 4 release of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. Best Buy has steelbook packaging and a collectible bracelet, while Target has a limited edition Eclipse DVD or Blu-ray set with exclusive packaging and tons of extras.
