Dexter, Miley and Orson

Aug. 17 was one of those new-DVD days when whatever store you might walk into chose a different title for a prime promotional spot, as typically happens during a slow week.

The biggest title in Walmart’s eyes was the new Miley Cyrus romance The Last Song, as it was the only new release the chain bothered stocking Blu-rays for on shelves. In fact, in the new-release section of at least two Walmarts in Southern California, no Blu-ray alternatives were offered in the new-release section for any recent title.

Best Buy offered the new Dexter: The Fourth Season DVD and Blu-ray sets with an exclusive bonus disc containing the 40-minute “Dexter” panel from the 2009 San Diego Comic-Con International (though the sticker on the package misspelled it as “Comi-Con”).

Target put most of its efforts into promoting a title no one else has: Me & Orson Welles, offering 45 minutes of deleted scenes and other extras. Target also offered a $5 gift card with the purchase of Warner Home Video’s One Tree Hill: Season Seven.
