Best Buy Has a Ring Thing

7 Jun, 2011 By: John Latchem

All the good exclusives for the June 7 new releases on DVD and Blu-ray Disc could be found at Best Buy.

The electronics chain’s most notable goodie came with Blu-ray copies of the new direct-to-video animated movie Green Lantern: Emerald Knights, which include an exclusive figurine of the Sinestro character.

Best Buy also had exclusive Blu-ray editions of Sanctum that included a DVD as well as a digital copy with the Blu-ray and 3D Blu-ray editions. The general-release versions include only a digital copy.

“Lord of the Rings” fans who pre-order The Lord of the Rings: Extended Edition boxed set (due June 28) at Best Buy with a $10 deposit can get a free replica of the films’ One Ring (a $24.50 value).

Target continued its pricing strategy of offering both DVD and Blu-ray versions of a new release for the same price. In this case both True Grit and Just Go With It could be had on either format for $17.99. It’s especially interesting as far as True Grit is concerned since the Blu-ray package also includes a DVD and digital copy, which means Target essentially is giving the Blu-ray disc and digital copy away for free to savvy customers who want the DVD.
