Classic British Series ‘Upstairs, Downstairs’ on DVD March 29

21 Jan, 2011 By: John Latchem

Acorn Media March 29 releases one of the most popular British drama series in TV history with Upstairs, Downstairs: The Complete Series — 40th Anniversary Edition.

The 21-DVD set ($199.99) includes all 68 episodes of the 1971-75 series, plus more than 25 hours of never-before-seen extras, including a five-part behind-the-scenes documentary, 24 episode commentaries, interviews and the 25th anniversary retrospective.

The show focuses on the lives of the wealthy Bellamy family and their loyal servants as they share a London townhouse during periods of social change and political upheaval. The series inspired the recent hit Downton Abbey, and its release on DVD comes two weeks before PBS is set to air the new BBC revival of the series, beginning April 10 on “Masterpiece Classic.”

Also released March 29 will be Upstairs, Downstairs: Series 1 and Upstairs, Downstairs: Series 2 at $49.99 each. The other three seasons will be released individually later in the year.
