Verizon Offers FiOS TV Users 3D Baseball, Personal Account

Verizon is adding several elements to its FiOS TV digital cable/VOD/DVR service, including Major League Baseball telecasts in 3D for New York and northern New Jersey customers, and a “My Account” feature accessible on the TV.

Through the YES Network on FiOS TV, the New York Yankees-Seattle Mariners games July l0 (10 p.m. EDT) and July 11 (4 p.m. EDT) will air to customers with 3DTV sets, 3D glasses and a high-definition set-top box. The two YES Network games will be available to FiOS TV customers on channel 575. Verizon plans to announce additional 3D broadcasts and is developing a formal 3D offering that will be available in time for the winter holiday-shopping season, when 3D television sales are expected to spike.

“The YES Network’s 3D offering is just the latest way in which Verizon continues to enhance the value that FiOS TV offers today’s consumer, with the best in HD entertainment, industry-leading video on demand, and interactive applications that cable can’t match,” said Terry Denson, VP of content strategy and acquisition for Verizon. “We are committed to bringing our customers a consistently high quality TV experience with the best programming available over the country’s only all-fiber network. And there’s so much more yet to come, with new programming, applications and other enhancements that only FiOS can deliver.”

Additionally, FiOS TV subscribers now have access to My Account on their TVs, which enables them to view monthly bills, related information, expiration dates for current promotions, and information on Share the Network, Verizon’s rewards program for referring new customers.

Separately, Verizon Wireless is offering users of the Droid by Motorola and Droid Incredible by HTC smartphones an application related to the film Inception, directed by Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight), in advance of the film’s July 16 theatrical opening. To receive the Mind Crime Prevention application, Mind users, can text “WAKEUP” to 5500.

The application offers access to film information, video content and images, artwork, music, movie show times at nearby theaters, social networking channels, and the ability to insert themselves into a scene from the movie using greenscreen technology. Users also can access the movie-scene feature at www.protectyourthoughts.com, where video content from the film, wallpapers, character playlists and more.

Additionally, V Cast video-enabled devices will have access to behind-the-scenes footage and trailers for Inception, and can buy two songs from the soundtrack before its July 13 release.
