Report: 20% of TV Purchases in 3D by 201328 Jun, 2010 By: Erik Gruenwedel
One in five new televisions purchased by 2013 will be 3D-compatible, according to a new report.
Scottsdale, Ariz.-based In-Stat said year-over-year shipment growth will be 231% between 2010 and 2011, resulting in a doubling of the installed base of 3DTVs in the United States.
“High definition did create a wave of activity in the U.S. market not seen since the introduction of color,” said analyst Stephanie Ethier. “3DTV promises to be the next significant innovation wave for living room entertainment.”
Indeed, sales of 3DTVs and compatible 3D Blu-ray Disc players topped $55 million in the United States in the first 90 days of product availability at the retail level, The NPD Group reported last week.
