Consumer Reports Rates 3DTVs25 Jan, 2011 By: Chris Tribbey
The Panasonic VT20 and VT25 plasma HDTVs scored the highest for 3D at home viewing among 20 3DTVs rated by ConsumerReports.org, while Sony 3DTVs took home best honors in the LCD sector.
The rankings — along with ratings of more than 120 other HDTVs — will be featured in the March issue of Consumer Reports magazine.
“TV prices continue to drop even on models with a 3D mode,” said Paul Reynolds, electronics editor for Consumer Reports. “Some of the models we tested performed exceptionally well in 2D mode, so consumers may consider paying the premium for 3D-capability even if they do not plan on using the feature right now.”
Consumer Reports rates the plasma 3DTVs best in terms of 3D image and lack of ghosting, and the rankings also cover viewing angles, sound quality and HD picture quality.
Consumer Reports said it would soon test the wave of passive glasses introduced at this year’s International Consumer Electronics Show.
