‘Chuck’ Streamed in 3-D on NBC.com

By Erik Gruenwedel | Posted: 03 Feb 2009

Hoping to continue the 3-D buzz from the Super Bowl, NBC.com Feb. 3 through April 3 is streaming this week’s special 3-D episode from the comedy spy series “Chuck.”

The streaming episode, “Chuck vs. The Third Dimension,” originally aired Feb. 2 and is also available to stream in standard- and high-definition. The episode featured a guest appearance by former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jerome Bettis.

The network is counting on viewers to re-use the 120 million 3-D glasses distributed by PepsiCo at supermarkets, drug stores and big-box chains nationwide leading up to the inaugural 3-D commercial break during the Super Bowl telecast.

Other 3-D marketing included DreamWorks Animation’s reported $9 million investment for a Monsters vs. Aliens spot, first shown in January at the Consumer Electronics Show.

DreamWorks Animation, which is releasing all its films in 3-D this year at the behest of CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg, bows Monsters vs. Aliens theatrically March 27.
